At Rightworks, we’re committed to keeping you informed and providing the best solutions for your business needs. Recently, our partner, Intuit, announced significant pricing adjustments for QuickBooks products. This includes QuickBooks Pro and Premier Plus, QuickBooks Enterprise, QuickBooks Online, and related services. We want to ensure you are fully aware of these changes and understand how they might impact your business.

QuickBooks 2024 pricing changes

On June 10, 2024, Intuit announced a price increase for several QuickBooks products. In the past year, prices for QuickBooks Desktop Pro and Premier Plus have seen an increase of more than 50%. And this new announcement drives the cost of using these products up an additional 50% beginning October 1, 2024. These price changes underscore the importance of evaluating long-term costs and considering a switch to other platforms like QuickBooks Enterprise or QuickBooks Online.

Here’s a look at a few of the pricing changes that will impact users:

QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus/Mac Plus:

  • Current annual price (1 user): $649
  • New annual price (effective Oct. 1, 2024): $999

QuickBooks Desktop Premier Plus:

  • Current annual price (1 user): $949
  • New annual price (effective Oct. 1, 2024): $1,399

For detailed pricing comparisons for QuickBooks Online, Desktop and Enterprise products, please refer to Intuit’s announcement from June 10, 2024. And for additional information related to these and other price increases, check out these FAQs

Why are these changes happening?

A text image that outlines three ways Intuit's recent changes will impact users: increased cost, limited license access and focused development.

Intuit has indicated that their objective is to provide an online integrated platform to help accountants and their clients find success at every stage of business.

Intuit aims to streamline its product offerings toward cloud-based solutions like QuickBooks Online, while also encouraging migration to the more robust QuickBooks Enterprise solution. Further, the company has made it clear that they’re focusing development efforts on AI through Intuit Assist and automation of tasks to save time for accountants and their clients and allow businesses to receive payments more quickly.

Here are a few ways Intuit’s changes will impact users:

  • Increased cost: QuickBooks Desktop Pro and Premier prices increased by over 50% in the past year. This additional price increase, which goes into effect on October 1, 2024, drives your costs up another 50%.
  • Limited license access: After September 30, 2024, new businesses will be unable to purchase licenses of Pro and Premier Plus. Only QuickBooks Enterprise or QuickBooks Online will be available.
  • Focused development: Intuit is prioritizing the development of QuickBooks Enterprise and QuickBooks Online, ensuring these platforms continue to offer robust features and support.

Our recommendation: Consider switching to QuickBooks Enterprise or QuickBooks Online

A text image that notes the good news for QuickBooks users is that they have options: upgrade to QuickBooks Enterprise or switch to QuickBooks Online

The most affected customers are those currently using QuickBooks Pro and Premier, and associated services such as QuickBooks Desktop Payroll and Payments. With the rising costs of Pro and Premier, and the company’s focused investment in products like QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Enterprise, it’s crucial to consider alternative solutions.

The good news here is that you have options. Here’s a quick look at the two we’d recommend:

Upgrade to QuickBooks Enterprise

This platform provides advanced features and greater scalability, ensuring smooth business operations.

Switch to QuickBooks Online

This platform offers a range of solutions to meet your current business needs and the flexibility to scale as those needs change.
