With COVID-19 spreading at record levels in many parts of the US, accounting firms and small businesses are rethinking plans to reopen their offices as states reconsider their own reopening plans. For many businesses and firms, though, the question isn’t whether or not to reopen physical offices now; it’s whether to ever open them again.   

For some companies, the answer is simple. Restaurants, manufacturers and theaters, for example, have to operate in some sort of physical space. But other types of businesses might be able to get along—and might even be better off—working mostly or even 100 percent remotely.
